Google Gives Local Businesses an Advertising Boost

Some big changes happening with Google Local results. If you're a business serving a specific local geographical location, these changes are worth taking note of.

Google is rolling out Boost, a location-based ad product for local businesses:

Businesses will be able to create their own ads which will show up when people search for their location and service offering.

Also, Google are in the process of significantly changing the way local Google Places results are displayed:

For now, we don't think the criteria for appearing in the organic results positions will change, but the positioning of non-paid/non-ad within the organic results (rather than plopped at the top) provides unique oppportunities for SEO, even if you don't have traditionally high organic rankings.
