Here’s where it all begins

by Dave Foy on March 4, 2010

This feels rather like the first day back at school after the summer holidays—fresh sheet of paper, brand new pencils (HB, sharpened), gleaming shoes!

Where do I begin?

First: welcome to Woof! We’re a brand new search engine marketing service who I believe are a little bit different to the crowd.

How did Woof come about? We’re a small group of web designers, business owners, SEO experts and web copywriters led by me, Dave Foy. I’ve run Hull-based web design agency Definition since 2003, though we’ve all been involved in building and marketing websites since the late ‘90s (an eternity in internet years)!

Website work is going from strength-to-strength at Definition but I started to become a little restless and looked for a challenge. I’ve since spent the last 12 months researching and testing some rather ‘ninja’ methods to locate and market profitable online ‘niches’.

Partly, this has been in order to add another string to our bow. Partly also to provide another income stream. And partly also, I’ll admit, just for the sheer hell of it! And why not?

My goodness, it’s certainly been exciting, challenging and a real learning curve; a complete change from business-as-usual. This particular work hasn’t involved clients at all, it’s all been purely internal and in-house.

Many abject failures later, we’ve gradually honed and developed an amazing research technique to allow us to locate with pinpoint accuracy what to promote online and how to promote it effectively. Our niches kicked off, slowly at first, but then suddenly, we found we had a winning formula.

Success!

It was by chance we mentioned this work to a few friends and clients, and it’s fair to say they became rather excited. It never occurred to us till then that we could do some serious damage (read: seriously boost visitors and sales) for our client’s own businesses and niches too. In fact, it especially works well as they have their own products and services already.

I admit: we were reluctant at first. We didn’t want to be yet another SEO or search engine marketing agency with a vague pricing policy or ‘me too’ proposition. We also didn’t want our service to be for everyone. In fact, we particularly want to provide this service for a limited number of select clients that we can really focus on and provide a tip-top personal service for.

So Woof was born!

Why ‘Woof’, exactly? Don’t ask… partly because I can’t really remember! Hey, it’s memorable and to the point, isn’t it?

Anyway. Exciting times ahead. We’ve already taken on new clients since our launch just 2 days ago, but we have room for more, naturally. Once we’ve hit our limit we’ll be shutting the door, so we can maintain a quality service.

Here’s a little bit more of what Woof is all about.

And so: onwards and upwards. Woof!
